 A SHORT NOTE ON BANGLADESH
The central BANGLADESH lies on the coordinates of Latitude 21N and Longitude 091E with total area of 1,43,999 SKM. Indian territory surrounding the West, North and the major part of East side and the remaining East part surrounded by the territory of Myanmar. Southern Bangladesh is totally open to the Bay of Bengal, Which opened the doors of great opportunities and connected us with the whole world.
The major foreign currency earning resources is determined on the export of huge quantity of Readymade Garments / Jute / Jute Goods / Leather / Finished Leather Products / Tea / High Quality Rice / Frozen Fish / Medicine/ Toiletries / Vegetable / Crushed Bone and other Traditional Handicraft Items.
The main consumer of the export items of Bangladesh are USA, Europe, Far-East, Russia, Australia and Africa. Bangladesh subsequently Imports large volume of food grain, Pulses, Oil seeds, Oil, Crude Oil, Petroleum Products, Machinery, from different countries, also import huge numbers and quantity of raw materials of Ready made Garments i.e. Cotton / Cotton Yarn / Fabrics and Accessories, Garments Machinery and parts, Automobile parts and accessories, odoriferous substances etc. from Asia, Far-East, Europe & USA,.
Bangladesh is handing import and export cargo mainly through two major seaports, Firstly the Chittagong port and secondly the Mongla port at Khulna. However 75% of the sea cargo is handled through Chittagong port and rest through Mongla port. Containers are frequently and efficiently transported by rail and road to capital city of Dhaka and elsewhere within the country. An Inland Container Depot ( ICD ) is in full swing operation established in Dhaka. Establishment of five more Inland Container depot (ICD ) are in process for operation at different parts of Dhaka and Chittagong.
Presently, Chittagong Port Authorities have extended and developed the widely space for storing the container at about ten thousand tues capacity of the CPA.
