Shandong Weigao Group Co. Ltd. (formerly known as Shandong Weihai Medical Polymer Products General Factory) is situated in the High Technology Development Zone of Weihai City, a picturesque open coastal city. The Weigao Group owns 18 subsidiaries, and has total assets of 1.5 billion yuan (approximately $200 million US dollars). Of the total 4,300 staff the group employs, 580 are honored with senior technical credentials. The group covers a manufacturing space of 2,200,000 square meters including sterile workshops of 100,000 square meters that meet GMP standards. It produces 92 varieties of medical devices and sanitary products in more than 300 specifications. The Weigao Group of Companies will achieve 1.8 billion yuan in sales revenue in 2003. In the past fifteen years, the group has maintained its corporate management principal of ¡°Development, Innovation, Practicality and Consistent Quality¡±. It has based its operations on developing high technology and profitable new medical devices, while at the same time enhancing product quality and reinforcing scientific management skills. Its development strategy of focusing on the needs of the public and prioritizing science and technology research has ensured a speedy, sustainable and wholesome development of the company. In 1996, the company won the only Gold Prize awarded to the medical device sector at the Third National Forum on Science & Technology Skills Demonstration. This Forum was hosted by the State Science & Technology Commission, The China Academy of Sciences, The China Association for Science and Technology and The State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.
