TCL Overseas Marketing Limited coordinates the management of TCL's promotional activities as relates to markets outside China. The group comprises North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and OEM business units. Since TCL started engaging in OEM for some of the international brands in the mid-1990s,its overseas businesses now cover 50 countries and territories including North America, Europe, Australia, Russia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East ,and South Africa. Meanwhile, we have also set up sales offices in Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, India, South Africa and Russia, with similar offices being set up in Australia and New Zealand. In 2003, overseas business increased in leaps and bounds. The total sales of color TVs exceeded 3.91 million sets, with total export sales amounting to US$410 million. This has become a new point of economic growth in TCL's rapid development. TCL's branches in Southeast Asia have all set up their solid brand status and business foundation. The business of German company Schneider Electronics, acquired in late 2002has finished restructuring and new product development. This year we acquired US company Go-Videoa famous US brand of audio-visual products. In other parts of the world, our overseas businesses have all recorded very substantial growth. In November of 2003, TCL signed a memorandum of understanding with Thomson regarding the integration of both parties' color TV businesses. On July 29th of 2004, the joint venture TTE of TCL and Thomson held its opening ceremony, marking the start of TCL to take a decisive step in growing to be a multinational. TCL has already built its grand domain in global color TV field. In the whole world, TTE possesses 5 profit-making centers, 5 research and development centers and 10 manufacturing bases, over 20,000 global marketing outlets, 29,000 staff and workers that include more than 1,100 R&D talents.
